GoldieBlox, founded by Stanford engineer Debbie Sterling, is a toy company with the goal to inspire the next generation of female engineers. Girls lose interest early in math and sciencem, but research shows the earlier kids get interested in math and science, the more likely they are to enter those fields. GoldieBlox is a series of interactive books plus construction toys starring Goldie, a curious girl with a love of engineering. Goldie’s stories encourage girls to build, and develop spatial skills that are fundamental to engineering. Her adventures lead to problems to solve by building simple machines. While the story unfolds, your child car build what Goldie builds. The effectiveness of GoldieBlox isn’t based on assumption, but on careful research of gender differences and observation of children’s play patterns by neuroscientists. GoldieBlox leverages girls’ verbal skills to help develop and build self-confidence in their spatial skills. GoldieBlox seeks to nurture girls who are more confident, courageous, and tech-savvy, and helps to give them a real opportunity to contribute to the progress made by engineers in our society. Includes 1 storybook, 5 animal figurines, 1 pegboard, 5 wheels, 10 axles, 5 blocks, 5 washers, 1 crank, 1 ribbon, and 14 design templates.
